/ / / Top 10 Very Deadliest Spiders

There are many candidates for the title of the world’s deadliest spider. One of the most important considerations in determining the deadliest, is who the spider is deadly to. Some spiders can efficiently poison even small mammals with their venom, and a few can make humans very ill as well. Typical listings for deadliest spider include the Brazilian Wandering Spider, which occasionally shows up in cluster of bananas in the US, the Funnel Web Spider, which lives in Australia, the Hobo Spider, which can be found in the US, and the Brown Recluse.

1.Brown Recluse

This spider is a native of the United States. A seemingly innocuous spider, yet its bite can wreak all kinds of havoc on humans. Brown Recluse spiders like to hide away in dark places, such as boxes, under furniture and around books. Symptoms of having been bit by this spider include redness and swelling around the bite, as well as nausea, fever, vomiting and shivering.

2.Black Widow

The Black Widow's scientific name is the Latrodectus hesperus. Although most are black, some Black Widow spiders are actually brown. Females feature a red hourglass shape on their abdomens. Black Widows like warmer regions and thrive in the desserts of the United States. Although the female black widow does inject poison when it bites, only one percent of bites result in death.

3.Brazilian Wandering Spider

Also called the Banana Spider, this species is both aggressive and extremely venomous. Although called a Brazilian spider, there are a variety of species found in forests in countries such as Costa Rica, Argentina, Columbia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay. The spider's venom contains a neorotoxin known as PhTx3. Although their venom is deadly, the spider or spiders would have inject enough venom to harm a human.

4.Funnel-Web Spiders

Funnel-Web spiders are found in Australia close to Sydney. The bites from these spiders are dangerous and can cause a number of frightening symptoms in as little as 10 or 15 minutes. Of greatest concern are symptoms such as difficulty breathing and coma. Lesser symptoms include chills, fever, vomiting, numbness of mouth and lips and drooping eyelids. If bitten by this spider, seek an antivenom.

5.Mouse Spiders

Even though the Black Widow may have a better known name, the Mouse Spider is actually quite venomous. Also, these spiders are in nearly every country and environment imaginable. The female is black and the male is dark brown or black with a red head area. The venom of the Mouse Spider is similar to the venom in a Funnel-Web spider. This spider is highly aggressive and will attack when it feels threatened.

6.Red Back Spider

This spider is found in Australia. Its bite can be deadly, especially to the very young or the very old. The spider likes dry areas and is often found outdoors. Its appearance is similar to that of the black widow. It is found in both rural and urban areas. Most bites from the Red Back Spider occur in the summertime. Symptoms include pain, sweating, vomiting and weakness in the muscles.

7.Wolf Spider

These spiders are both brown and gray. Their venom might not be lethal, but like any spider bite infection can set in. If bitten by a Wolf Spider, or any spider, you should seek treatment from your doctor. Do not bind a bite wound, instead put ice on it until you can reach medical help. There around 125 different types of Wolf Spiders found in the USA and another 50 in Europe.

8.Goliath Birdeater Tarantula

One of the largest spiders around, just the site of this monster is enough to strike fear in the heart of any arachnophobe. Even though this giant is the size of a dinner plate, and does carry venom, it is far from deadly. Most of the time, some minor pain and swelling will occur at the site of the bite. The Goliath Birdeater can even devour a full grown mouse or small birds, thus the name.

9.Sac Spider

Large Sac Spider

Even though Brown Recluse spiders are often blamed for spider bites, scientists suspect that many bites come from these Sac spiders. Sac spiders carry a venom that has cytotoxin and actually kills cells. Even though the bite can leave a nasty mark and irritation in the area, or the person might feel a bit ill, these bites are not deadly. These spiders are also known as ghost spiders.

10.Hobo Spider

hobo-spider

These spiders look similar to a brown recluse, but have hairier legs. Although the spider's bite is not deadly, the venom can actually cause tissue to die at and around the bite site. The bites can take months to heal and leave permanent scars. One of the easiest to recognize symptoms of this spider's bite is a severe and persistent headache that will not go away with medication.

Why are four of the ten "Deadliest Spiders" listed as not deadly? This is a pointless article, with bad research, and spelling errors to boot. People need to stop putting out bilge like this...

I'm not even a spider enthusiest and I can tell you that the image for #5 the "mouse spider" is incorrect. That is definitely the brazilian wandering.

Which leaves me to wonder what random spider picture was identified as the wanderer in #3....

  5. Whomever wrote this article, you are obviously a knob, and I'm betting an American knob to boot. You list a non-lethal, American spider at #1??? It was right there that I realised that you are nothing more than an All-American Knob!!!

So what's the matter with being all American? At least we know how to spell "realized". I'm just sayin...

    2. The brown recluse can be deadly and even if it doesn't kill you, it will make you very sick and cause extensive damage to the skin and surrounding tissue that could result in permanent disfigurement and even amputation of the effected area. I would say these results plus the fact that they are very common in households increasing the likelihood of human interaction would place them high in the list of deadly spiders.

    3. I'm an Australian, we spell realised with an "s", though both ways of spelling are correct. This page, is inaccurate, I'm sorry to say, there's no need to profile and say all American in a negative manner but this page is full of shit!!!!

Make fun of Americans while you miss spell "realized". Good job.

    1. Realised = correct in the UK, Australia, and other English-speaking nations using the English spelling.
      Realized = American.
Since the English invented the English language, one can therefore conclude that you are in fact misspelling the word. Good job!!

    "Most deadliest"?

With a contradition like that, I should've realised the article would contradict itself further by telling us almost half the spiders on the list aren't deadly. So really, I blame myself for reading this $h!t

  12. OK, first if all what is a knob? Second of all yes a Brown Recluse is deadly if not treated. Not only will the venom rot the skin and cause painful swelling but it also has the potential to cause an infection that can enter your bone marrow and cause amputated limbs and or death depending on severity and where the bite occurs. So therefore check your knowledge before you try throwing it around like you right and calling Americans things like knobs which by the way belongs on a door and really doesn't offend us since its really just an ignorant thing to call someone.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The brown recluse spider is potentially fatal. It depens on where your bitten. A friend of mine lost his leg due to a brown recluse bite. Their toxin is necrotizing which means the flesh around the bite Rots And dies, and without proper care can be life threatening. Though i dont know that i would have put it as number one....

  14. Perhaps American knobs are more knobby than say Mexican knobs... Or British knobs... In my experience, the americans take the prize. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  15. You are most probably an American and most definitely an idiot that has absolutely no idea what deadly means. The Australian funnel web spider is by far the most deadly and results in death if not treated in a lot of cases. The brown recluse causes redness and swelling big bloody deal the white tail spider can result in ulceration of the skin and the redback spider has killed a lot of people as well. If you are going to write an article such as this get your facts straight first the world is not contained within the continent of nth America other places do exist and in these places other species live!!!

  16. It's not cool listing faulse information about spiders us kids believe the web and use it in school for numbers research Or even extra credit this could cost us a semester grade if we write down Somthig that is not true not to mention if we run across one of these specimens and the bite is listed nonVenomous and we handle them and they bite us and become very I'll and the spider turns out to be venomous then the posibilitys of deth can arise
There are kids and even adults that can get bit by a simple bee and become very I'll or even die if there not properly taken care of Every body is different especially if there allergic to spider bites this info can cost lives STUPID
You guys are suppose too help us not kill us

    ReplyDelete
  17. Thank you for that information

  18. Yep another yank with absolutely no idea, Funnel web is the worst, probaly the Brazilian wandering spider 2nd or the redback.. those are certainly the top 3.. recluse ?.. c'mon.... and the black widow is just a poor cousin of the redback, The redback is so common and numerous that you often can find 30 in the space of 10 minutes in Australia, and on sight of them you back away, or hit em with a cricket bat.

  19. My advice to any kids and young people wanting to know FACTS, please do not use the internet as your main source of information. This list of his is very wrong and inaccurate, The Sydney Funnel Web is #1, not only as dead;liest but it is the most amazing creature, it does things that are dumbfounding. it can live underwater or out of it, they are known to sit on the bottom of swimming pools for weeks without moving, touch it and wham, it is awesomely painful and without anti-venom you are DEAD.

    1. Well, Noob is another way of saying Newbie, whereas Knob is another way of saying Penis... And there is only one 'T' in British... (English has been used in England for a huge amount of time longer than English America has even existed... Hence why it is called English, and not American... Although there are a frw differences to words and spelling between the two... (Realise/Realize, Petrol/Gas, Aluminium/Aluminum etc...)
      My point has been made...

  32. AnonymousJuly 04, 2014

How are you working out the deadliest? As most people have said half your list hasn't killed any human... Eg... Goliath Bird eater (theraphosae sp) has huge 1 inch fangs but no major venom... You should research the number of deaths a particular spider has caused the spider that has the most recorded deaths is obviously the deadliest ... Saying that you would need to take into consideration some of the spiders have no known anti-venom ... If the spider has an anti-venom it can no longer be classed as majorly deadly....

Pic 3 is a phonutria sp (wondering spider) .. pic 5 looks more like a trapdoor spider (look on the spider shop website they have some for sale lol) ...

    Top 3 most venomous
    1 Brazilian wondering spider
Joint 2nd/3rd Sydney funnel web and the 6 eyed sand spider...

And yes I do know what I'm talking about as I have 300+ tarantulas and spiders (yes I do have a dwa license)

1 more thing ... Every nation has it's own "dumb ass people" no need to say all Americans are dumb or all English are dumb that's just stereotypical and judgmental. if thats how you feel then its you thats dumb.

  33. AnonymousJuly 04, 2014

If the info is so wrong, why not offer help instead of criticising someone that has obviously made an effort ... If using the WEB (pun intended lol) for school work you should always compare several different sources. It'sa dumb move to take the first site as solid gold info :)
